The Female Hormonal Balancing Diet

There are numerous symptoms of female hormonal imbalance from mood swings, depression, persistent jawline acne, insomnia to PMS. My relationship with my hormones has been tumultuous to say the least. My emotions weren’t driven by external events but were rather the outcome of an imbalanced hormonal processes that gripped my daily reality.

To combat the jawline acne symptom alone; I tried every topical retinoid cream, antibiotic, birth control, anti-androgen medication and even briefly dabbled with roacccutane. The latter had severe side effects but that is a whole nother blog post!

After exhausting all prescription and western medication known to mankind and countless sessions of Chinese acupuncture to rectify the hormonal imbalance, I was left beyond frustrated and my self-confidence was at an all time low.

It was only when I changed my diet that I was able to naturally stabilize my hormones. It really was that simple – It has now been over 4 years since I embarked on this journey and I haven’t looked back!

I now follow a clean natural Low Carbohydrate Paleo Diet and have completely eliminated the following triggers:

No Gluten
No Wheat
No Refined Sugar
No Alcohol
No Diary
No Soy
No Processed food
No Vegetables oils

My diet is my strongest defense against hormonal issues while I apply progesterone cream and take 5 natural hormone balancing supplements, which are extremely beneficial, they are definitely not a substitute for the right diet. Diet is the key player.

The solution may be simple but the dedication to a ‘restrictive’ diet can be challenging on an ongoing basis. There are obvious motivations such as the resultant clear skin and emotional control but we all fall folly to cravings and sumptuous treats. My solution is to plan ahead, don’t go hungry, try new restaurants and seek out as many different recipes as possible!
